Blog returns in 2011

…I hope?

I miss writing here. I wonder if any of my old subscribers will notice this update, or if my entire readership has dwindled to those people searching Google for the meaning of the expression “it’s the thought that counts.” In any case, I’m going to try to bring this blog back in the new year, and spend some time between now and then stocking up the queue.

I think it’ll be easier to keep blogging consistently if I have a clearer framework to start from. So, in the future, I plan to post critical examinations of particular ideas and concepts we encounter in our daily lives — whether in politics, advertising, pop culture, science, or any other aspect of the Zeitgeist in general. (That’s critical examinations in the sense of applying critical thinking, not implying that I’ll necessarily be criticizing or debunking every idea I discuss.) I’m sure that, occasionally, I’ll write a post that’s just about some recent event or other news item, but I think this framework is true to our original vision of what this blog would be for and will prompt me to write more often.

I’m going to aim for three posts a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), beginning in January. See you then!

Blogging hiatus

Hi, internet friends. As you’ve probably guessed, the real world (mostly, my research) is taking up a lot of my time these days. I figured I should stop by, approve the handful of comments trapped in the queue, and let you all know where I went. I really miss blogging, but I like sleeping more, so that’s how the cookie crumbles for now. I hope to be back sometime soon, maybe once the semester ends… but we’ll see.

New WP theme

Just a heads-up: we’re in the process of transitioning to a new WordPress theme. Apologies if some links are broken or things look bizarre; it’s temporary, I promise! Should be running smoothly by tomorrow.

Back starting Monday

Welcome to October, everyone. Sorry we haven’t been around in a while. Over the weekend, I’ll be queuing up some posts to get us back on track next week. In the meantime, I thought I’d leave you with this music video. Perhaps you’ve already seen it before… but I’ve watched it dozens of times now and I’m not bored of it in the least. If you haven’t seen it, it’s high time you check it out!

A comeback

I hope to be returning to blogging within the next few days. See you soon!

Still here…

I’m still here; it’s just that real life is taking priority over blogging these days. So much has been happening in the world lately, and I wish I had more time to write about it! Hopefully I’ll be back soon. In the meantime, please take ten minutes and watch this great video about critical thinking and having an open mind.

And… we’re back!

I know, I broke my New Year’s resolution already. I was busy for the whole weekend and never had a chance to schedule posts ahead of time to cover it. Ah well, such is life. I’m back now, and you can expect “real” posts to resume tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

Hello again. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

I never really took New Year’s resolutions all that seriously, mostly because things like going on a diet or getting organized don’t really need to (and probably shouldn’t) wait until January 1. I never had much to resolve to do that I couldn’t start doing in June or October instead. However, this time it just so happens that my schedule coincides with the calendar, and I’m resolving to return to blogging with daily posts in 2009. Here’s hoping I can stick with it!

A new schedule

Well, as sad as it is, we have to admit it: life got busier once the school year started. A and I are both too bogged down with other responsibilities to keep up both an ideal posting schedule and good post quality. So we’ve decided to concentrate our efforts into writing twice a week — you’ll hear from A on Mondays, and from me on Thursdays. That’s not to say those are the only times we’ll post. If something newsworthy happens, you can bet we’ll be here to voice our opinions on it. The bottom line, though, is that we want to continue to give you high-quality writing without the counterproductive pressure of trying to produce a vast quantity of it.

Of course, we’ll still be checking in on the site often, and we’d love to continue to have conversations with you all through the comments. After all, we need to take a break from school sometimes!

See you in September

Both A and I will be away from computers over the weekend, so you won’t be hearing from us again until early next week. If you’re in the US, we hope you have a happy Labor Day, and if you’re not in the US, don’t you wish you got a day off from work in honor of people who work?

Since I know how devastating it will be to go a whole long weekend without anything new from us to read, here are some choice posts from back in the day (three months ago, when we started this blog) that you probably haven’t seen before:

We’re going to turn comment moderation off until we’re back, so anything you post will go up right away even if you’re new here. Have fun, and try to shield your eyes from the spam.
